My Week 1 problem solving

Walt:add and subtract decimals.
We are learning to add decimals and also subtract decimals. A decimal is a fraction whose denominator is a power of ten. Decimals are related to fraction like the denominator. A decimal is also a dot like this >. and some people say it's a point not like the point in when you win a game and you get a point.

I have been learning about fractions and have been solving fraction problems by using addition or subtractions. I solved fractions by using additions. So for example if i had 2 whole pies and gave 1 1/3 i would only have 7/10.

We have been learning about sequence fractions. Sequence means order. If you have the fractions like:
6/13, 7/13, 9/13 and 2/13, then as you see that the denominator is the same all you have to do is to look at the numerator. So it will go like this: 2/13, 6/13,7/13 and then 9/13 only if you were going biggest to smallest or do it the other way around then you will have the smallest to largest.

We have been practicing out fractions. We get a problem that envoles fractions and we try to work it out.
The denominator is the bottom number witch tells you how many pieces there are altogether. The numerator is the top number witch tells you how many pieces you have. So the bigger the denominator the smaller amount you get.

Walt: solve multiplication problems.

We have been solving multiplication problems using strategies. We learnt how to solve multiplication problems like this: 21 x 32=, we go 20 x 30= then 20 x 2=, 1 x 30= then last 1 x 2=.

My maths group today was learning how to solve a problem in a group. I learnt that I need to read the
question carefully so I understand what it is asking me to do. We learnt that instead of drawing that takes a little longer we can use multiplication.

How cool bottle rockets really are

Walt: know that other people might take a different judgement from the same information.

This is what my group read about and had been completed it. Its about bottle rockets and how to make them. This presentation is about guessing and then writing in a opinion that people might think of about bottle rockets. Then write about what we think.

Year 5/6 camp

!!!Today is camp day!!!

Would you have a exciting mood for camp?

Camp was a fun and cool day as class 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 had happiness and enjoyed competing in different activities against other’s.

Who who who are we, we are Matapono e rara yes we are swing that ball and lets go far, was my team Matapono e’s chant and i liked it. We had made some actions then had gotten ready for the first day of camp. Our actions we alright.

The first activity that Matapono e and I did was ping pong, basketball and roller skating and that was fun. Would you like camp? I would if I were you.

Con.At camp it was cool and I felt happy but tired. So that was the fun and exciting first day of camp. Everyone had the awesome day ever.

Year 5/6 camp last year

Walt: make connections across a wide range of text.


I visited Collin's blog about the year 5 and 6 camp. Collin had a heap of fun and was excited and he had fun cooking with Ms Tito and the others. He even thought that cooking the batch was funny because you would have to jump back so the oil does not burn you.



The camp sounds like a heap of fun cannot wait until camp.
 The cooking sounds cool but also funny.
 What a interesting camp that we will be having tomorrow until Friday.

This shout out is to Collin he has said some things about the year 5/6 camp when he was in year 6. I am nervous of what kind of things we will be doing at camp tomorrow. Thank you.

Our task was make a connection with a wide range of text and to look on some of the year 6 witch are now year 7's. We had to look for a piece of writing about them writing about the camp at Pt England school. We have to write 2 paragraphs and a shout out to the person that you looked at.

Muba and Danielle- what's in the bag

My friend  and  I were learning about probability. We had used an envelope and six coloured blocks. After we had put the blocks in the bag  we went around the class room to let kids pick out one block each. As Muba and I had finished going around the class room to eight people we had a guess how many coloured blocks there were adding up to six. We made a presentation about what is in the bag.

Telling time

Walt: Tell time and in digital way.


Number 3 is quarter past,number 6 is half past,number 9 is quarter to and number 12 is 0. On the clock there is a pattern when you see 3,6,9,12 its counting 3's. Also the big hand tells the minutes and the small hands tells the hours.
